Sophia is a member of SKDK’s New York public affairs team helping corporate and nonprofit clients develop impactful media and branding strategies.
Previously, Sophia was a spokesperson for the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY), the largest fire department and emergency medical service provider in the United States where she worked with senior leaders on crisis communications, media relations and rapid response during fires and emergency incidents. She shaped and oversaw the communications rollout of key FDNY policies, including modernization of the 911 system and implemented marketing and digital strategies for the department’s successful $10 million firefighter recruitment campaign.
Sophia was a presidential appointee in the Obama Administration serving as deputy press secretary at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). At SBA, she managed digital and traditional media strategy for the SBA Administrator, a member of the President’s cabinet, including national campaigns supporting Small Business Saturday and National Small Business Week. She completed internships at the U.S. Department of State and White House.
Sophia received a B.A. in international relations from Syracuse University. She is a MPA candidate (2020) in public and nonprofit management at New York University with a specialization in public finance and financial management.
