Marcela Salazar

Marcela has a wealth of experience in communications and public affairs, and an exceptional background in defining and driving media, community affairs and campaign strategies for high-profile government, nonprofit and broadcast organizations.

Prior to joining SKDKnickerbocker, Marcela was a principal at The Raben Group, serving a diverse portfolio of clients such as the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda and the Minority Corporate Counsel Association. Before working in client services, Marcela spent 10 years in broadcast journalism in Washington, D.C., at both CNN and Univision.

As a senior producer in CNN’s Washington bureau, Marcela worked on shows such as “John King, USA,” “Crossfire,” “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer” and “The Lead with Jake Tapper.” She was also the bureau chief and executive producer for CNN en Español’s Washington bureau and covered the 2012 presidential campaign for the network. At CNN, she earned an Emmy nomination and contributed to the network’s 2011 and 2013 Peabody Awards.

Marcela also helped launch and produce Univision’s Sunday morning public affairs show “Al Punto with Jorge Ramos,” and covered the 2008 presidential campaign, the Affordable Care Act and the 2008 financial crisis for the network.

Prior to her broadcast career, Marcela served as press adviser for the office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during the 109th and 110th Congresses, a communications specialist with the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) and was a senior consulting analyst with Accenture in both the United States and Spain.

Marcela received her master’s degree in journalism from the Universitat de Barcelona, with a certificate from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. She is also a graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service where she majored in international politics and she is fluent in Spanish.
