SKDKnickerbocker Wins Eight Pollie Awards
SKDKnickerbocker (SKDK) was awarded eight Pollies for television and print advertising by the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) this past weekend. The Pollie Awards are the top industry awards recognizing excellence in political advertising and political consulting.
SKDKnickerbocker won in a wide variety of categories. The firm was awarded first place for “Best :30 TV Ad for Local/Municipal/Regional Campaign (Non-Mayoral Democrat)” for Sandra Doorley for District Attorney (Monroe County, New York) and won four Pollies for TV ads created for Jim Hood for Mississippi Attorney General, including a silver Pollie for “Best :30 TV ad for a Statewide Constitutional Campaign (Democrat).”
The firm also received bronze Pollies for “Best :30 TV Ad for Advocacy/Grassroots Campaign” for New Yorkers United for Marriage and “Best :30 TV Ad for Public Affairs Campaign” for American Association of Railroads. The complete listing of awards is below.
Sandra Doorley for DA
1st place :30 TV Ad for Local/Municipal/Regional (Non-Mayoral Democrat)
Sandra Doorley was a political novice who came into the race for Monroe County District Attorney late in July 2011 and with virtually no name recognition. Managing Director Jennifer Cunningham and Senior Associate Nicole Gill crafted an opening bio spot to introduce her that received first place for “Local TV advertising” for a 30-second spot, and put her on the path to an impressive 58%-41% victory margin.
Hood for Attorney General
Silver :30 TV Ad for Statewide Constitutional (Democrat)
Bronze TV Ad “Best Use Of Humor”
Bronze TV Ad “Best Use of Humor” (Democrat)
Honorable Mention “Best TV/Radio Campaign for a Democratic Candidate”
Despite a Republican landslide and a tough opponent, Jim Hood was the only statewide Democrat elected in Mississippi last cycle, winning over 60% of the vote. Managing Directors Bill Knapp and Jay Marlin ran a successful—and humorous—advertising campaign, which received Pollies in the following categories: “Best :30 TV Ad,” “Best Use of Humor,” and “Best TV/Radio Campaign for a Democratic Campaign”.
New Yorkers United for Marriage
Bronze :30 TV Ad for Advocacy/Grassroots Lobbying
Managing Directors Jennifer Cunningham, Josh Isay, Stefan Friedman—along with Senior Associate Nicole Gill and most of the New York office—were awarded a bronze Pollie for “Best :30 TV Ad for Advocacy/Grassroots Campaign.” The New Yorkers United for Marriage campaign was a historic success—passing legislation that legalized same-sex marriage in New York.
Association of American Railroads
Bronze TV Ad Campaign–Public Affairs
Bronze Full Page Ad—Public Affairs
Managing Director Bill Knapp and Vice President Keith Kincaid led an innovative print and TV ad campaign for the Association of American Railroads (AAR). Their work, which highlighted the positive effect of freight rail on employment and the economy, was recognized in two Public Affairs categories: “Best TV Ad Campaign” and “Best Full Page Ad.”
