SKDKnickerbocker Congratulates Clients on Great Wins – New CT Governor and NYS Attorney General Helped Win Tough Statewide and Congressional Races
Washington, DC – SKDKnickerbocker (SKDK) congratulates its clients and organizations it worked for who had great wins, despite a Republican tide of historic proportions.
Connecticut Governor (Produced TV/radio/mail)
SKDK congratulates Dan Malloy for a hard fought win, becoming the first Democrat in over 20 years to be elected to the governor’s mansion in Hartford. Malloy was outspent 2-1 in the general by former Irish Ambassador Tom Foley and 4-1 in the primary by 2006 Democratic Senate candidate Ned Lamont. Working with Global Strategy Group, SKDK helped develop the strategy to help the Malloy campaign come from 15 pts behind to win the primary and then defeat the more heavily financed Foley.
NYS Attorney General(Produced TV/radio)
Winning with 55% of the vote, Manhattan State Senator Eric Schneiderman defeated Staten Island DA Dan Donovan to become Attorney General. Schneiderman embraced the moniker of “sheriff” of Wall Street, campaigning to keep the heat on the financial industry like Cuomo. SKDK helped an outspent Schneiderman to come from 25 pts behind to win a hotly contested five person primary, and then helped guide the campaign to a general election win.
DSCC-IE—Nevada (Produced TV)
In one of the biggest races in the country, SKDK takes great pride in helping re-elect Nevada Senator Harry Reid. For the DSCC-IE, SKDK produced hard hitting ads against Tea Party star Sharron Angle over the last several weeks of the campaign.
Congressman John Dingell (Produced TV/radio/mail)
Republicans had their sights set on defeating John Dingell, Dean of the House and the longest-serving incumbent. Dingell’s challenger, Rob Steele, earned Sarah Palin’s endorsement and the support of the Tea Party. But Dingell had no intention of going quietly and instead mounted a vigorous effort and an aggressive media campaign. It worked: John Dingell defeated his opponent by a nearly 17-point margin.
DCCC-IE (Produced TV/radio)
SKDK played a critical role in two hard-fought Congressional victories for the DCCC IE:
In MA-10, Jeff Perry was seen as Scott Brown’s protégé and was favored to win this open seat that gave Brown his highest margin of victory. Yet hard-hitting ads about Perry’s involvement in a strip search scandal while serving as a police officer helped stop Perry and enabled the Democrat, Bill Keating, to secure victory. SKDK’s ads – the “most viewed” of the DCCC IE ads on YouTube – provided significant cover on broadcast TV, something the candidate’s campaign could not afford.
In GA-02, Sanford Bishop endured his own “Dewey Beats Truman” moment on his way to re-election after a tough campaign when the AP called the race for his opponent, Mike Keown, only to reverse their assessment several hours later. SKDK’s ads focused on Keown’s votes in the legislature to raise over $300 million in taxes and fees, while raising his own pay.
Rhode Island Attorney General (Produced TV)
A police officer for 24 years, State Legislator Peter Kilmartin defeated a former prosecutor and three other opponents to become Rhode Island Attorney General. SKDK was pleased to develop TV advertising for the Democratic Attorney General Association IE.
Mass. Secretary of State (Produced TV)
SKDK is proud of its work producing television advertising on behalf of Bill Galvin, who after his decisive 65-33 victory becomes the longest currently serving constitutional officer in Massachusetts.
Baltimore County/City State’s Attorneys (Produced TV/radio/mail)
SKDK helped re-elect Baltimore County State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger to a second term and helped Gregg Bernstein win a surprise upset against a 15 year incumbent State’s Attorney in the September Primary for Baltimore City State’s Attorney, as well as win the general election.
Winning Mail—Congressional and SEIU Independent Expenditure
SKDK mail helped congressional and local candidates defeat strong opponents (and the conservative groups that poured in millions on their behalf). SKDK produced hard-hitting comparative mail to help re-elect Representatives Carolyn McCarthy (NY-4), David Price (NC-4), and Raul Grijalva (AZ-7) fend off strong Tea Party challengers. SKDK produced mail for SEIU’s independent expenditure to help win the following races: Senator Harry Reid, Senator Barbara Boxer, Congressman Gary Peters (MI-9), and Congressman Bill Owens (NY-23).
