Washington, DC—(November 10, 2011) – SKDKnickerbocker (SKDK), one of the nation’s leading strategic communications and political consulting firms, is proud to have played a major role in winning races on Tuesday from the Deep South to the Northeast. Mississippi AG Jim Hood Wins Big Despite GOP Winning Every Other Statewide Office
Despite being the GOP’s top target, with hundreds of thousands of dollars of ads aired against him for not joining the lawsuit against President Obama’s healthcare plan, Attorney General Jim Hood won a resounding 61%-39% victory. Hood defeated Governor Haley Barbour’s handpicked Public Safety Commissioner Steve Simpson. Hood was the only Democrat to win statewide, losing only four of Mississippi’s 82 counties, and winning the same percentage of the vote as the GOP gubernatorial winner.
Despite Anti-Incumbent Mood, New Haven Mayor John DeStefano Wins Record Term
Overcoming a strong anti-incumbent sentiment and a tough economy, John DeStefano won a record 10th term and will become New Haven’s longest serving Mayor.
SKDK Wins Five Key Virginia Legislative Races
VA State Senator Dave Marsden (VA-37) held off a spirited challenge by Jason Flanary in this targeted race with a 54%-46% victory. In Loudoun Co. despite a GOP landslide, Senator Mark Herring (VA-33) won by a nearly ten point margin over Patricia Phillips in a rematch. VA State Senator John Miller (SD-1) won a narrow victory and VA Delegates David Bulova (HD-37) and Scott Surovell (HD-44) won by landslides despite being targeted.
Mark Poloncarz Handily Defeats Incumbent To Become Erie County Executive
Comptroller Mark Poloncarz overcame a self-funded incumbent and won a 53%-47% victory for Erie County Executive (covering Buffalo, N.Y.) Only the second Democrat to hold the position in the 51-year history of the post, Poloncarz’s victory was a clear win for working families who saw cuts to social services and healthcare while taxes were raised under incumbent County Executive Chris Collins.
Sandra Doorley Cleans Up in Race To Become Monroe County District Attorney
Despite being outspent 2-1 and entering the race late to succeed popular DA Mike Green, Sandra Doorley came from behind to defeat career politician Bill Taylor 58%-41% in the race for Monroe County District Attorney (covering Rochester, N.Y.). Voters responded to Doorley’s record of independence, her 20 year record of winning tough cases, and her commitment to justice.
