Alex Slater on Obama’s Jobs Speech
SKDK Managing Director Alex Slater suggests that President Obama’s major address to a joint session of Congress will be a critical opportunity to show the American people that he leads on the issue of jobs and the economy: “This week’s speech will be extensive: far more than a compendium of individual policies, it will constitute a manifesto for a second stimulus.”
The Republicans, Slater argues, are sufferingfrom a “deficit of invention,” unable to generate fresh ideas, and Obama will take this opportunity to reestablish himself on more solid ground, as the “convener of big, bold ideas.”
“So, expect the Republican game-playing to misfire spectacularly this week,” Slater predicts, “and prepare for what will be no less than an opening salvo in the President’s bid for re-election.”
