Case Study

NationBuilder

NationBuilder is a platform that provides political campaigns and nonprofit organizations with organizing, social media and fundraising tools – everything they need to lead and organize a community. In 2016 alone, NationBuilder was used by four major candidates’ campaigns for President of the United States, both sides of the Brexit campaign and thousands of down ballot campaigns in the U.S. and abroad; NationBuilder is the most used political software worldwide.

However, even with these credentials NationBuilder was still largely unknown to the media and general public.

SKDK approached this challenge with a communications plan that reintroduced NationBuilder to the media using proactive outreach and refreshed messaging.

The SKDK team worked to put NationBuilder at the center of the national conversation by instituting a media outreach plan that would not only yield coverage, but also build long-term relationships between NationBuilder leadership and reporters even before they wrote about politics and technology.

“Digital-campaigning specialist NationBuilder, which has raised $14.25 million from Andreessen Horowitz, Omidyar Network and others, says that it is the most widely used political software in the world, with more than 8,000 active customers and 40% of the state and federal campaigns using the service.” The Wall Street Journal

SKDK’s strategy provided NationBuilder with opportunities to become a more active participant in the conversation around the 2016 elections, helped build, establish and strengthen relationships with key members of the media, positioned key NationBuilder executives as thought leaders in the leadership and political industries and continued the promotion and outreach for NationBuilder product launches.
