National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health
“This fight is not over. Latinas have been fighting for a long time for our human right to healthcare, and we’re going to keep fighting until that right is a reality for every woman, regardless of where she lives or works, her income, or her immigration status.”
– Jessica González-Rojas, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health
All eyes were on the Supreme Court as they released their long-awaited decision on Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby. SKDK worked with the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health to ensure that in the post-decision analysis, the voices of Latinas were part of the national dialogue.
Jessica González-Rojas, Executive Director of NLIRH was a guest on Melissa Harris Perry to discuss the SCOTUS court case McCullen v. Coakley (which eliminated a 35-foot buffer zone around women entering and exiting health clinics in Massachusetts) and the implications of the Hobby Lobby case on access and affordability for women, particularly Latinas and their families. Two days later, she gave the Latina reaction to the Hobby Lobby case on News Nation with Tamron Hall.
In both appearances, Jessica maintained her strong opposition to the rulings and reiterated that the reason these cases came about in the first place was merely by misinformation and misplaced zeal on the side of opponents of reproductive health. SKDK was honored to work with this dedicated group of women!
